Connecticut Medical Malpractice Lawyer

Connecticut River
This shot is suggestive of the once wildly dynamic nature of the Connecticut River. The foreground shows the bare shoreline substrate generated by the scouring effects and alluvial depositing of spring flooding, while the deadfall shows the power of floodwaters as spring surges erode banks and claim patches of floodplain forest. The deep bend in the background suggests the restless nature of even great rivers such as the Connecticut as they tend to migrate and meander through their floodplains, cutting new channels and sealing off old channels as oxbows.
While these processes are still occurring, their dramatic effects have been greatly lessened by the series of dams along the river. Flood surges are now mostly controlled as once fast-flowing waters are now impounded into linear reservoirs at times of high water. As relevant, but often less considered, is the modern absence of the large sheets of ice that once ran in the spring surges. These frozen plates were once responsible for a great amount of scouring of the floodplain as the waters carried them with high velocity. This scouring created open areas along the floodplain, leaving bare soils supporting a wealth of specialized plants and invertebrates. The series of dams have now all but eliminated this important natural process.

The move caused a delay of approximately 20 minutes to the Sealth because the Navy halted all traffic through Rich Passage while the flotilla traversed the pass.
